RAM CHANDRA PAUDEL RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL Kathmandu, 29 June: Vice-President of the Nepali Congress, Ram Chandra Poudel has been discharged from the TU Teaching Hospital this afternoon after the improvement in his health, RSS reports. Leader Poudel was receiving treatment for pneumonia and high blood pressure for a week. After being discharged, Vice-President Poudel thanked all doctors attending him and those wishing good health to him, according to his aide Chiranjivi Adhikari. Talking to media persons, Vice-President Poudel said present political deadlock would be removed if the party leaders became honest and responsible towards people and country. During the treatment at hospital, various leaders talked about the political consensus, he said, adding that even the UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has stressed the need for consensus to solve problems. In another note, leader Poudel urged the government to immediately provide chemical fertilizer to the farmers across the country. UN CONTRIBUTES 48 MILLION TO PEACE FUND Kathmandu, 29 June: The United Nations Peace Building Fund Friday contributed $8 million to help the peace process. The fund is managed by Nepal government. The money will be used to consolidate the peace, including improving policing, promoting dialogue and leadership and reinforcing national efforts to address the needs of women and conflict affected children, a statement issued by the Office of the Resident and Humanitarian Co-ordinator in Nepal, said. “As we saw in late May, some of the most difficult and sensitive issues of the peace process are till ahead of Nepal. At this uncertain juncture, we will target these resources towards interventions that will help move the peacebuilding process forward,” a statement said. Judy Cheng-Hopkins, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support, said Nepal will continue to require medium and long-term investment in peacebuilding to address the underlying causes of the conflict. “We want to see our resources fund projects that will create momentum in support of the peace process in Nepal,” the senior UN official said.eng-Hopkins as saying.
