CIAA FILES CASE FOR REVIEW OF SPECIAL COURT VERDICT
ACQUTNG 33 POLICE OFFICERS
Kathmandu, 5 July: CIAA filed a case at the supreme court Wednesday seeking
a review of a special court decision 14 February to acquit 33 police officials for their alleged involvement in purchase of logistics for peacekeepers with UN in Darfur, Sudan.
The police officers were acquitted as CIAA said the special court verdict was
flawed.
The special court sentenced three former IGPs for their involvement in the
multi-million rupee purchase of sib-standard logistics threatening lives of
peacekeepers.
Rubel Chaudhary, the Bangladeshi son-in-law of Sujata Koirala, daughter of Girija Prasad Koirala, was charged for brokering the deal with Nepal Police.
His flight out of the country was arranged when Maoist leader Krishna Bahadur Maharaa was home minister even though the powerful Chandhary was on a police watch list.

KUWAIT FUND EXTENDS LOAN FOR BUDHI GANDAKIPOWER PROJECT
Kathmandu, 5 July: Kuwait Fund Wednesday approved a Rs.1.55 billion loan for the
construction of the Budhi Gandaki hydro power project and laying a transmission line.
Nepalgovernment has to sign the loan agreement—a formality.
The loan carries a two percent interest.
All capital investment has been mobilized, including government contribution.
