ELECTION COMMISSION INVITES BIG THREE LEADERS TO DISCUSS ALTERNATIVES FOR 22 NOVEMBER VOTE Kathmandu, 22 July: Election Commission is holding talks Sunday with talks with the top leaders of the Big Three to discuss alternative for the for the 22 November constituent assembly (CA) elections declared unilaterally by government 27 May. The Commission has invited Maoist Chairman Prachanda, NC President Sushil KOirala and UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal for consultations after government failed to meet Sunday’s deadline to provide the body responsible for polls with amendments to an interim constitution and election laws to hold the vote by the 22 November deadline. The election by the deadline is now uncertain. Nnnn VIOLENCE MARS LALITPUR BANDH UPDATE Kathmandu, 22 July: Violence marred Sunday’s Lalitpur bandh with at least two buses vandalized. Long and short-haul buses didn’t operate from the town. Locals are protesting government effort to settle squatters from Thapathali at Sundharighat. nnnn
