GIRL TRAFFICKER AWARDED 170-YEAR JAIL TER, Kathmandu, 11 July: Bajir Singh Tamang, 37, of Shikharpir VDC, in neighbouring was sentenced Wednesday by district judge Ananta Raj Dumre to a severe sentence of 170 years in jail for girls trafficking. Tamang was convicted for trafficking six girls to Agra of Taj Mahal fame. The girls aged from 14 to 37 years escaped from the brothels and filed charges against Tamang. The accomplices were also convicted and jailed. DETAILS OF PM, INDIAN ARMY CHIEF MEET Kathmandu, 11 July: Visiting Indian Chief of Army Staff (CoaAS) General Bikram Singh paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai at the latter's office at Singha Durbar on Wednesday, RSS reports. During the meeting, matters related to mutual interests and bilateral relations and cooperation were discussed. The half-an-hour long meeting also focused on the possible assistance from the Indian Government to the Nepal Army, sources said. Talking to media persons after the meeting, Indian Army Chief General Singh said that he had come to Nepal with the greetings and best wishes from the Indian government, Indian army and the people to Nepal and he was happy to have an opportunity to meet PM Bhattarai. Responding to a query by journalists, Singh said the Indian Government gives special significance to the Nepal-India relations and his visit soon after his appointment as army chief has proved the same. A process of providing assistance to the NA will be moved ahead as per the policies of both the countries, he said. Indian Ambassador to Nepal Jayant Prasad was also present during the meeting.
