INDIAN ARMY CHIEF GEN. SINGH ARRIVES FOR FIVE-DAY OFFICIAL VISIT Kathmandu, 10 July: Indian Army Chief Gen.Bikram Singh arrives Tuesday for a five-day official visit—his first tour of a foreign country after assuming office. He’ll receive the honourry rank general of Nepal Army (NA) reflecting the Wa,m bilateral relations between the two countries. Gen. Singh arrives on invitation of his counterpart Gen.Chatraman Singh who completes his tenure soon; Gen. Gurung has already been conferred honourary rank of the Indian Army. The Indian army chief will hold talks with Prime Minister Dr. Babura, Bhattarai, who looks after the defence ministry portfolio as well and his counterpart Gen. Gurung. President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav will install; Gen. Singh as honourary general of NA. India has agreed to resume arms supplies to the NA after royal rule but the premier, through a direct letter to India, requested a halt to the shipments denying arms supplies to his own army. Nnnn FATHER JAILED FOR 22 YEARS FOR RAPING DAUGHTER Kathmandu, 10 July:: The District Court, Solukhumbu has sentenced a father found guilty of raping his daughter to 22 years in Jail, RSS reports from Solokhumbu. Tikaram Basnet,36, of Sotang in the district was sentenced by District Judge Sita Prasad Pokharel to 12 years in jail for rape and an additional 10 years on offense related to incest. Mr Basnet, who had repeatedly raped his daughter, was arrested on June 8, 2012. The Court has also announced a compensation of Rs. 150,000 to the victim. nnnn ________________________________________ 1KG GOLD FOR MANAKAMANA TEMPLE FOR REPAIRS Kathmandu, 10 July: The Department of Archeology has provided one kilogram gold to the Manakamana Area Development Committee to coat the famous Manakamana Temple with gold, RSS reports from Gorkha . Chairperson of the Committee Dinesh Joshi confirmed that the gold received has been deposited in Rastriya Banijya Bank, New Road branch, in the capital. Mr Joshi said the market value of the gold is above Rs 5.8 million. The Department provided the gold to coat the idols, Tundal and other worshiping materials in the temple. Similarly, the government provided Rs 4.1 million to purchase timbers from Makawanpur district necessary for the renovation of the temple. The total renovation work of the temple is expected to cost around Rs 80 million, Joshi said. nnnn ________________________________________ TWO ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPTING TO SEND WOMAN TO OMAN WITHOUT VALID PAPERS Kathmandu, 10 July: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) of Nepal Police arrested Bimal Jung Thapa (50) and Ramchandra Kafle (50), director and manpower agent at TIA Sunday. They were attempting to fly Nisha Pandey (26) and Shashikala Rai (32) to Oman without labour permit. nnnn KHUM BAHADUR KHADKA AT SC HEARING ON GRAFT CHARGE Kathmandu 10 July: Supreme Court (SC) Monday heard argument on a Rs. 23.6 million corruption case against former home minister and NC leader Khum Bahadur Khadka. CIAA has charged Khadka who was convicted for five years but the special court overturned the decision on technicality. The SC ordered a review. Nnnn
