INTEGRATION OF MAOIST COMBATANTS ENTERS SECOND DAY Kathmandu, 5 July: The integration of 3,000 plus Maoist former combatants into Nepal Army (NA) entered its second day Thursday. Forms were distributed to them at three cantonments Wednesday. The former fighters will be recruited in NA under norms of the state army under a separate directorate. A 22-member army team is overseeing the integration process at seven cantonments and an army training center in Chitwan. There was initial hesitation Wednesday on the process but the fighters joined the process later in the day following party directives, it’s learn. FORMER KING RETURNS Kathmandu, 5 July: Former King Gyanendra returns to the capital Thursday after completing a four-day visit of three terai districts of the western region. The former king for the first time after leaving Narayanhiti royal palace said directly there’s possibility of monarchy’s return. He charged party leaders for being guided by foreigners and said dissatisfaction amongst people was rife. He said specifically there was a written agreement with parties to retain monarchy as Janaandolan Two and details will come out at an unspecified time. nnnn DOLLAR SLIPS AGAIN Kathmandu, 5 July: The exchange rate of the dollar slipped another 65 paise Thursday as Nepal Rashtra Bank (NRB) fixed the exchange rate at Rs. 87.30 to the greenback. NRB floats the rupee against convertible currencies every day while the rate is fixed with the Indian rupee. The dollar started losing ground as euro stabilized. nnnn
