MADHAV KUMAR NEPAL, PRESIDENT MEET Kathmandu, 4 July: Former Prime Minister and senior UML Madhav Kumar Nepal Wednesday asked President Dr Ram Baran Yadav not to endorse a full budget the caretaker government of prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai might attempt to promulgate through an ordinance. He told the president to a national consensus government was needed to end a constitutional and political crisis. ‘There’s no alternative to a national government,” Nepal said. Nepal said the caretaker government can’t bring a full budget. The UML leader asked Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai to step down. Nepal returned from China and started attending party meetings Tuesday. He was greeted with black flags by protestors opposed to UML policies in Hong Kong en route home. The party opposes a bull budget introduced by a caretaker government. The FNCCI earlier met leaders of other parties seeking heir cooperation to promulgate full budget. Nnnn LOCALS BURN EFFIGIES OF PM OPPOSING PLANS TO RESETTLE SQUATTERS AT SINDHARIGHAT Kathmandu, 4 July: Effigies of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai were burnt and residents obstructed Wednesday as government attempted to resettle squatters evicted from Thapathali at Sundharighat on acquired government land in Lalitpur. The squatters describing themselves as’ landless’ wee forcibly ebovted from Bagmati river banks; they were settled there when Keshav Staphit was UML mayor during his first elected term. The settlers have now become a problem and have polluted the holy Bagmati river. Residents at Kirtipur also opposed government plans to resettle the squatters. Sundrighat is a holy site where government acquired 582 ropanis land. nnnn
