MADHAV KUMAR NEPAL ‘WARNS’FORMER KING Kathmandu, 15 July: UML senior leader, without respite, talked Saturday in Chitwan of King Gyanendra’s desire to play the role of a guardian, this month in a television and ‘issued a ‘warning’ this time. “We told him to read the text prepared by us. Because the address nowhere mentions retaining monarchy, I warn Gyanendra not to talk nonsense,” Nepal told his audience in the central region. The former prime minister said he and Girija Prasad Koirala helped prepare a draft of the king’s address to parliament reinstating it to end Janaandolan Two. This claim is no bombshell and it was openly and freely talked about. Nepal warms the them on a common knowledge and everybody concerned is aware of the details of the address for which Nepal need not give reminders. “We agreed to reinstate parliament but there was no agreement to retain monarchy.” Nepal challenged the former king to show documents if there was any agreement to retain monarchy. It appears, Nepal and the then are taking of different drafts. The then king has talked of drafts with signatures of many unnamed living and dead persons on papers exchanged during the palace and leaders to end Jajaaandolan Two. Gyanendra Shah mentions there was agreement to retain monarchy in the drftsechanged. Nepal makes no mention of these drafts. The king’s address to parliament is common knowledge. Nepal hasn’t said the draft he and Koirala prepared weren’t tampered with. The UML leader is the only politician who has persistently attacked the then king’s for the contents of television interview every day. nnnn
