NC, UML TO BOYCOTT MEET CONVENED BY PM TO DISCUSS BUDGET, CA ELECTION
Kathmandu, 10 July: Main opposition NC and UML said they’ll boycott a
meeting convened by Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai Tuesday morning
to discuss a national budget for the fiscal year 2069.70.
The current fiscal year ends Sunday.
The budget, constituent assembly (CA) elections 2 November and other issues will be
discussed.
All parties in the automatically CA have been invited, an aide of the prime minister said.
President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav asked Premier Bhattarai, who leads a
caretaker government, to bring a budget through an ordinance with the consensus of political parties.
The CA election is being discussed as the Election Commission (EC) told the government chief Monday the vote can’t be held 22 November without amendments in the constitution and election laws.
Government hasn’t taken initiatives for amendments for which agreement of opposition is required.
The Commission told the premier Monday it needs 120 days or four moths tohold the vote after getting the amendments; time is running out fast.
EC has invited leaders of political parties for a briefing on the vote Tuesday
after briefing the premier, ministers and top bureaucrats Monday
on the unilateral vote..
Meanwhile Vice-chairman of CPN Maoist CP Gajural Monday called for
the premier’s ouster.
“Since Bhattarai is adamant on sticking to power, he has to be thrown out of the power,” Gajurel said.
