UML GENERAL SECRETARY POKHRELPARTY WANTS PARLAIMENTARY ELECTIONS Kathmandu, 14 July: General Secretary of CPN-UML Ishwor Pokhrel has said that his party was in favour of parliamentary elections, not Constituent Assembly (CA) elections, RSS reports.. Speaking at a program organized by the party in the Capital on Saturday, Pokhrel claimed that disputed issues in the constitution would not be resolved just by reinstating the CA or holding fresh CA elections. The UML leader was of the opinion that a new commission should be formed to prepare a draft of the constitution as 80 per cent work of the constitution was completed by the CA and the new legislature-parliament should promulgate it. Pokhrel said that political consensus was the only way to forge consensus in disputed issues of constitution, form a national unity government and end the present political impasse. (Pokhrel said party was for parliamentary elections one day after senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal talked in favour of restoration of dissolved constituent assembly indicating the second largest opposition party is not sure what it wants. The party is adding confusion to a crisis.) nnnn
