UPDATE ON FORMER KING’S CMMENTS IN BHAIRAHARA TUESDAY By Bhola B Rana Kathmandu, 4 July: Former King Gyanendra spoke out his mind Tuesday frankly and fearlessly for the first time Tuesday in Bhairahawa after leaving Narayanhiti Royal Palace five years ago saying there should be a role for monarchy in Nepal. “While visiting different parts of the country, people said there should also be a role for us.I have left it to the people to decide that role. It’s not for me to decide. I haven’t decided,” he said in a prepared statement. ‘I’m not a good politician, I am a king. I should be a king. There’s no bigger position thn this,” he added of his future role. ‘Changes in the country have brought out many bitter things Talk of caste, religion oisn;t good. People are facing many hardships and they are looking for some kind of role. The situation has worsened after I left I Narayanhiti.” The last time the former king made some public comments, UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal threatened retaliation and his military security guards were withdrawn. The former king returns to the capital after a four-day tour of three west Nepal terai districts when he interacted with people who received him warmly in their hundreds.
