60 TEACHRS INJURED IN CLASH WITH POLICE Kathmandu, 28Aug.: At least 60 teachers were injured in a clash that ensued after the police used force against the agitating teachers while the latter were picketing the Ministry of Education at Keshar Mahal demanding service and facilities, RSS reports.. The clash took place as teachers were staging sit in at the Ministry by demanding their social security including salary hike, implementation of previous agreements signed between the Teachers Struggle Committee and the Ministry. Eight teachers including Kamalesh Kushbaha, Chandrika Sah, Shanti Sharma and Kalpana Kharel were critically injured in the clash. The critically injured are receiving treatment at the Bir Hospital. Other teachers were also injured in the clash. Chairman of Nepal Educational Republican Forum, Gunaraj Lohani, condemned the police suppression on teachers in their peaceful demonstration. RSS Nnnn UNICEF CLAIMS ‘RUMOUR’ON SIDEEFFECTS OF MEASLES VACCINES NOT TRUE AMOD REPORTS OF DEATH Kathmandu, 28 Aug.:: United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) Nepal Vaccine programme in-charge Bishnu Poudel has said that rumour spread about side effects of measles and rubella vaccines on children is not true, RSS reports from Gulmi. He has urged the people to participate in the vaccination campaign announced by the government from September 17 this year without any doubt. "Children may suffer minor side effects after the vaccination if they have any health problems," he said. Speaking at a news conference organised to give information about the second and third phase of measles and rubella vaccination campaign announced by the government, Poudel urged journalists to disseminate news about the vaccination going into the facts. The government has announced the second phase of the campaign from September 17 and third phase from December 17 this year. According to data, some 1,400 children die from measles and rubella every year in the world and the best way to keep the children safe from the disease is the immunization, he said.The first phase of the campaign had been organised in 15 districts in the far-western and the mid-western regions. The second phase campaign will run in 16 districts in the western region and nine districts which were missed during the first phase.The vaccination campaign is a part of the National Immunization Programme. Meanwhile, a health specialists' team formed to carry out a field study on the DPT and measles vaccinations issues in Doti district has submitted a report to the Child Health Division under the Department of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Population. The Department had formed the team on August 23 and deputed it to the district for study. According to Division's Director Dr Taranath Pokhrel, the report will be unveiled soon. The team was formed following the news stories that four infants died after the vaccination in the district recently. Nnnn CASH BONUS FOR PARTICIPANTS IN NCELL CUP FOOTBALL Kathmandu, 28Aug.:The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has announced to give Rs 100,000 each to 16 different football teams participating in the Ncell Cup Football Competition to be held from September 12 in the capital, RSS reports.. Organizing a news conference today in the capital, ANFA Vice-chairman and spokesperson Lalit Krishna Shrestha said that all 16 participating teams would be provided with the cash for their preparations. He said the winner team of the competition would bag Rs 1.5 million while Rs 700,000 would be given to the first runner-up. Similarly, the best midfielder, defender, highest scorekeeper and coach each would be given Rs 75,000, according to the ANFA. Likewise, the best player will be honoured with a motorcycle. The Three Star Club and Madhyapur Youth Association are scheduled to play the opening match of the competition at the Dasharath Stadium. nnnn
