CONFLICT VICTIMS NEGLECTED IN FAR-WEST
Kathmandu, 6Aug.: Conflict victims in Rolpa, Rukum and Bardiya districts are sad as they have not got compensation from the State yet, RSS reports from Vo ssAA reports fro,.
Bardiya.
Jugaram Chaudhary of Baniyabhar-5 in Bardiya who had decided to carry a gun during the people's war after being enticed by the Maoists' slogan is now living with broken heart as he is neglected by those for whom he had sacrificed his golden days.
Jugaram had joined the people's war against the interests of his family and had returned home with disability.
He really gets disheartened as he sees the Maoist leaders who had forced him to join the war traveling in expensive and luxurious vehicles.
“Now we (conflict victims) have been left stranded on the midway by the Maoist leaders,” said Jugaram and accused the Maoist leaders of forgetting the spirit of the people's war. Jugaram feels more pain seeing a split in the Maoist party.
Jugaram had suffered bullet injuries to his right leg in an attack in Jumla District Headquarters on Bhadau 18, 2059 BS. Despite treatment, he could not fully recover. Now, he feels that his right leg is dysfunctional as he cannot stand properly.
But, he has no complaints about his decision, but the complaint is that he has not got relief and allowance from the State though it has been almost five years that the Maoists have joined the mainstream politics.
Similarly, Devi Lal Tharu of Nyaulapur is another example of conflict-hit people, passing tough days with his physical disability. Likewise, Bijay Chaudhary of Dhadhabar- 8 had sustained bullet splinter during the conflict.
Though faces of conflict victims here are different, their experiences, woes and days are same. They have complained that they have not got any relief from the State yet. They have accused the Maoist leaders of neglecting their woes and pains and turning a dear ear towards their pleas for help.
They demanded that the government should announce a special programme of relief targeting the conflict victims. They have also warned that they would not support the Maoist leaders in the upcoming election.
According to data, there are around 100 Maoist cadres who had been rendered disabled during the conflict in Bardiya district alone.
