GARBAGE PURCHASE TO KEEP ILAM CLEAN
Kathmandu, 3 Aug.:The Ilam Municipality has come up with a novel idea of keeping the town clean. The idea is to purchase the solid waste produced in the city, RSS reportsfrom Mangalbare.
Under this plan, waste collection centres will be operated through the women's committees affiliated to the local Tol Development Organizations for the collection of solid waste like papers, plastic, tin, glasses, bottle etc. produced from houses in the town and the market area.
The Municipality will buy this waste collected at the waste collection centres for one rupee to twenty rupees per kilogramme or per unit, it is stated.
Ilam Municipality will make 80 per cent investment and the women's groups 20 per cent for setting up the waste collection centres. The centres will set aside certain amount from the fund they collected by selling the waste for meeting the operational cost, Environment Officer at the Municipality, Kamal Mainali, said.
In the initial phase two waste collection centres would be operated at two different places in the town as pilot project. The Municipality plans to expand this scheme if the pilot phase goes well. There are 114 Tol Development Organizations in the town area. nnnn
