IDOLS OF GODS, GODDESSES STOPEN FROM THIMI Kathmandu, 25 Aug.: Different idols of gods and goddesses with highly archeological importance have been stolen from the Yachimba vihara (Buddhists' temple) based in Chapacho Brhamayani at Ward No.-10 of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality. An idol of the Hindu deity Ganesh, a 300-year-old wooden idol of the Ganesh, a metal crown placed on an idol of the Deepankar Buddha, earring and a silver locket weighing seven tolas and an old door curtain have been stolen from the temple. Thieves have burgled into the temple from its main entrance during the nighttime and made off with the valuable property, said the Metropolitan Police Circle Thimi. Earlier, head of an idol of the lord Buddha along with a crown had been stolen from the same temple some ten years ago. Later, only upper part of the idol was found. Nnnn TOP TALIBAN COMMANDER AMONG 12 KILLED IN NATO AIR STRIKE IN AFGHANISTAN Kathmandu, 25 Aug.: Two air strikes in eastern Afghanistan killed a dozen insurgents, including a top Taliban commander, NATO and Afghan officials said Saturday, AFP reports from Asadabad in Afghanistan. "There were two separate air strikes in Kunar (province) yesterday. A total of 12 insurgents were killed, six in each air strike," a NATO spokesman told AFP. The police chief of Kunar´s Shigal district, where the attacks took place, said most of the militants were from neighbouring Pakistan and included a Taliban leader. "Commander Dadullah, the top Taliban commander in Bajaur agency of Pakistan, is also among the dead," Sayed Rahman said. Afghan and Pakistani Taliban Islamists both operate along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Last week, around two dozen militants were killed in NATO air strikes in Chapa Dara district of Kunar as they gathered for a public execution. NATO has some 130,000 troops in Afghanistan helping the government of President Hamid Karzai fight the Taliban insurgency. nnnn ________________________________________
