JCFL SENIOR OFFICIAL SENTENCED TO 4-YEAR JAIL TERM Kathmandu, 16 Aug.: The Special Court has sentenced then Department Chief of Janakpur Cigarette Factory Limited (JCFL), Bindeswar Prasad Gupta to four years in prison along with a fine of Rs. 3.58 million after finding him guilty of corruption during his term of office, RSS reports.. Court Chairman Gauri Bahadur Karki and members Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Prasad Chalise handed down the verdict today after finding Gupta of embezzling Rs. 3.58 million earned by the JCFL through sale of its products. Gupta was found guilty of corruption as per Clause 17 and 3(1) of the Corruption Prevention Act, 2059 BS, said registrar of the Court, Dhir Bahadur Chand. Nnnn FIVE, INCLUDING TWO SOLDIERS, ARRESTED WITH BULLETS OF SLR Kathmandu, 16 Aug. Two soldiers and three civilians were arrested Thursday in the capital by police with 47 rounds of bullets of a self-loading-rifle (SLR) in the capital. The soldiers have been handed over to the army. Nnnn CPN MAOIST LIKELY TO DEFER ITS GENERAL CONVENTION BY TWO MONTHS Kathmandu, 16 Aug.: The general convention of the newly formed CPN-Maoist is likely to defer by two months, RSS reports. Earlier, the CPN-Maoist had fixed its general convention for December 16 after announcing its breakaway from the UCPN-Maoist. The party is planning to organise its first general convention during the second week of February 2013. The UCPN-Maoist has also announced its general convention from February 28, 2013. Party politburo member Hari Bhakta Kandel said that the new date has not been fixed though discussions were held at the party's ongoing politburo meeting regarding the date deferral. He said, however, party leaders have opined to organise the general convention from either December 30 or from January 9, 2013. Similarly, the politburo meeting of the party has formed an 11-member general convention main management committee under party secretary Netra Bikram Chand. The meeting has been postponed till Friday morning. nnnn
