MAOIST CHIEF SAYS GOVT. WON’T STEP DOWN Kathmandu, 12 Aug.: : UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that present government would not step down despite the opponent parties' outcry for the same, RSS reports.. Addressing party cadres of Tamuwan State Committee in Pokhara on Sunday, the Maoist Chairman said that the UCPN (Maoist) party could only think of quitting the government if the political parties agreed on the disputed issues in the constitution writing process. He said that the UCPN (Maoist) party would move ahead from both government and street if other parties did not agree on a single-ethnic based identity in federalism. Also speaking at the programme, Prime Minister and UCPN (Maoist) Vice-Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai said that the party has no more factions and would unite ahead. Dr Bhattarai also admitted that he failed to meet the people's expectations and reasoned that it happened so because of a coalition government. Another Vice-chairman of the party and Deputy Prime Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that the party cadres should rise above from personal interests and work for the nation and people. RSS nnnn KASHI GURUNG REMANDED TO JUDICIAL CUSTODY Kathmandu, 12 Aug.: - Lalitpur District Court on Sunday ordered to remand Unity Life International (ULI) Chairman Kashi Gurung was remanded to juicial custody by Lalitpur district court Sunday until the final verdict on charges of swindling customers.. Preliminary hearings were conducted Sunday. . Gurung, who was on the run, was arrested 31 July. nnnn. TRAFFICKER HELD WITH 63KG HASH Kathmandu, 12 Aug.: Madan Bahadur Pulami Magar, 46, of Udayapur was arrested with 63 kg hash from Govindapur-8, Shiraha, Sunday. The consignment was being smuggled across the border to India. His accomplices fled. nnnn . MAOISTS IRRESPONSIBLE SAYS SUSHIL KOIRALA Kathmandu, 12 Aug.: Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala has said the UCPN-Maoist was being proved as an irresponsible party in the national and international Arena, RSS reports from Chitwan.. At a programme organized by Nepal Press Union, Chitwan Chapter at Narayangadh today, President Koirala said the country was heading backwards due to the sheer irresponsibility on part of the Maoist party. Venting his ire on UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal's views on leadership of the next government, NC President Koriala said it is not Maoist Chairman Dahal to determine which party would lead the next government. "He has no right to make such irresponsible remarks. The Maoist is a party that reaches agreements but fails to implement them," leader Koirala commented. The recent activities of the Maoists have proved that it was working to capture state authority, he said, adding that no one was above the law. Moreover, he said the Maoists won't improve unless it abandoned the politics of weapon. He urged the Maoist party to fully implement the past agreements. The programme was organized to give away the Chijkumar Bishnu Kumari Shrestha National Journalism Award. The award was conferred on senior journalists duo Harihar Birahi and Taranath Dahal. The award carries a purse of Rs 25,555 each. It was set up in memory of then chairman of democratic fighters' association, Chij Kumar Shrestha.RSS nnnn MADESHI MORCHA MEETS SUNDAY Kathmandu, 12 Aug.: The United Democratic Madhdesi Front (UDMF) on Sunday discussed about the decision to forge a democratic alliance with the ruling Parties, RSS reports.. At today's [Sunday’s] meeting, the parties in the UDMF put forth their views, but would come up with a decision tomorrow, said Jitendra Dev, General Secretary of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal (Loktantrik). The UDMF coordinator and Chairman of the Forum (Laktantrik) presided over the meeting where top leaders of Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party, Rastriya Sadbhavana Party, Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party-Nepal, and Sanghiya Sadbhavana Party took part. The UDMF would meet at 8:30am tomorrow [Monday]. nnnn
