ORDINANCE UPDATE UCPN MAOIST FORMALLY COMES OUT
AGAINT PRESIDENTIAL ACTION
Kathmandu, 18 Aug.: The ruling UCPN (Maoist) has said that President Dr Ram Baran Yadav had taken a political step by going beyond the constitutional
Boundary, RSS reports.
The UCPN (Maoist) made such statement after the President on Friday rejected two ordinances relating to elections recommended by the government.
Organizing a news conference at the party central office at Paris Danda, Kotesthwor, UCPN (Maoist) spokesperson Agni Sapkota said that the President was trying to push the country towards confrontation by taking political decision.
"Scrapping of the ordinances recommended by the government to ease the election process is extremely a political decision. Such decision is unfortunate," Sapkota told the journalists.
President Dr Yadav on Friday scrapped ordinances on Election to the Member of the Constituent Assembly-2069 and Ordinance to Amend Some Existing Electoral Laws-2069, stating that the ordinances were not relevant this time.
"The President holds no constitutional rights to reject the ordinances though the Election Commission stated that holding elections to CA was not possible on November 22. This cannot be done. Instead the President could return the ordinances to the government for review. The President took this step being influenced by the opposition political parties," according to the UCPN (Maoist) spokesperson.
Sapkota also claimed that the Federal Democratic Republic Alliance was formed to forge political consensus among the parties and none should worry about the move.
He added that the alliance was not formed to invite political polarization but was to institutionalize the agenda of change.
