PM ARRIVES IN TEHRAN Kathmandu, 30 Aug.: Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai arrived in Tehran, Iran on August 29 evening to lead the Nepalese delegation to the 16thNAM Summit, RSS reports. On arrival at the Tehran International Airport, Prime Minister was received by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha ‘Prakash’, Foreign Secretary Durga Prasad Bhattarai, Gyan Chandra Acharya, Ambassador/Permanent Representative of Nepal to the UN in New York, Bharat Raj Paudyal, Ambassador of Nepal to Pakistan and Iran, Shahram Shantiaee, Honorary Consul of Nepal in Tehran as well as senior officials of the Government of Iran. All necessary preparations have been made for the 16th Summit of Heads of State or Government of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) scheduled to be held on 30-31 August 2012. The 16th summit conference of the Non-Aligned Movement commences here from today. The conference is being held at the International Conference Centre in the Iranian capital. President of Iran, Mohammad Ahamadinejad is scheduled inaugurate the conference. nnnn GOOGLE EARTH USED TO CURB TIMBER SMUGGLING Kathmandu, 30 Aug.: The District Forest Office Dang has brought into use Google map to control the smuggling of timber as it has been increasing in various government and community forests, RSS reports from Dang.. It has been easy for arresting the timber smugglers, said Forest Officer Arun Sharma. We have started to use it when we are in office from last Friday, he said. We sent a team to the site when we saw timber felled at Kalatara in Goltakuri VDC while zooming in the area and we could arrest the people along with materials used for cutting as well as five cu. ft. of timber after two hours, he said. Likewise on Monday, timber felling was seen in Purandhara VDC forest of western Dang while looking at the Googlemap in the afternoon and were able to arrest the eight smugglers along with 73 cu. ft. of timber at 1:00 am at night, said Poudel. He said this was the largest smuggling group. The timber and smugglers are taken into custody and action has been forwarded by the District Forest Office. They will be made public in a press conference, he said. A total of 11 armed forest guards are assigned at night after smuggling increased in the district it is learnt.
