SENIOR CHINESE DIPLOMAT FU ASSURES PM OF CONTINUED CHINESE ASSISTANCE UPDATE Kathmandu, 13 Aug.: Visiting Chinese Vice-minister for Foreign Affairs, Fu Ying paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai at the latter's office in Singha Durbar today. During the meeting, matters of mutual interest and bilateral relations were discussed. On the occasion, the Chinese Vice-minister said China would continue to give priority to Nepal's economic and infrastructure development as per the agreement reached during Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to Nepal in January. Talking to reporters following the meeting, Vice-minister Ying said bilateral consultative meetings are important to further expand and strengthen relations between China and Nepal. She also said that China would support construction of the 750 mega watt Western Seti Hydel Project and the Pokhara Regional International Airport. The Chinese Vice-minister for Foreign Affairs on the occasion also extended an invitation to Dr Baburam Bhattarai for a visit to China. Ms Ying is in the capital to take part in the ninth meeting of the Nepal-China Foreign Secretary Level Consultative Mechanism. During the meeting, Prime Minister Bhattarai also assured Ms Ying of not allowing Nepali territory to be used against China, according to the Dr Bhattarai's press aide Prashant Lamichane. RSS ADDS: The ninth meeting of the Nepal-China Consultative Mechanism concluded here today. The meeting discussed on various issues of mutual interests including the promotion of bilateral trade, infrastructure development of the border areas, increase in investment and tourism promotion, among others. Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Durga Prasad Bhattarai attended the meeting leading the Nepali team while Chinese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Fu Ying took part in the meeting on behalf of the respective government. Fu arrived here on Saturday on a four –day visit to Nepal. The foreign secretary level mechanism was formed with a view to strengthening bilateral relations in 1966. The eighth meeting was held in Beijing. nnnn
