TOURISM MINISTRY FORMS PANEL TO PROBE PROBLEMS IN POKHARA AIRPORT CONSTRUCTION
Kathmandu, 7 Aug.: The Ministry of Culture and Civil Aviation has formed a four-member panel to resolve the problems seen in the construction of a regional international airport in Pokhara.
The ministry formed the panel after the officials of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) objected to the construction of the regional international airport saying that CMC Engineering, a Chinese company, was awarded the contract in a rate higher than the real investment.
Joint secretary at the Ministry Ranjan Krishna Aryal would lead the team while Deputy Director General of Airport Reforms Project Pushparaj Shakya, Deputy Director General of CAAN Suman Shrestha and member of Board of Directors of CAAN Manoj Karki are other members in the panel formed by the ministerial level decision on Monday.
Coordinator Aryal said the team has been given responsibility to made recommendation to resolve the problems seen in the construction of the proposed airport.
The CAAN had awarded the Chinese company with the contract worth Rs 27 billion a month ago.
