UML YOUTH ASSOCIAION CALLS NEPAL BANDH 16 AUGUST Kathmandu, 8 Aug.: Youth Association affiliated with opposition UML has called a nation-wide bandh 16 August to press demands for resignation of prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai after the party standing committee concluded this week government can be toppled only through street protests. The Association, supported by youth organizations of other opposition parties, is disrupting traffic in urban centers, including the capital, as part of protests. Nnnn BLACK FLAGS GREETE EDUCATION MINISTER IN TANSEN, PALPA Kathmandu, 8 Aug.: Education Minister Dinanath Sharma was greeted with black flags waved by opposition students in Tansen, Palpa, Wednesday. The minister had gone to the town at attend a golden jubilee celebration of an educational institution. Several students were injured in clash with police forcing students to close down the district in the afternoon for several hours. Meanwhile, student organizations Wednesday staged a sit-on at at district education offices nation-wide pressing educational demands including protests against ‘high fees’ while demanding re-naming educational institutions with foreign names. Students Tuesday staged protests in front of campuses pressing the same demands. nnnn
