UML YOUTH ASSOCIATION AGAIN DISRUPTS VEHICULAR TRAFFIC Kathmandu, 8 Aug: Opposition UML Youth Association again spearheaded four-hour disruption of traffic in urban centers demanding resignation of the 11-month government of Prime Minister headed by Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai demanding its replacement by a national consensus government. The disruption supported by youth of eight other opposition parties, including main opposition NC, disrupted morning sessions of educational institutions. In the capital, the disruption was reduced by one hour. The Bhattarai government says it will make way for a consensus government only under a package, including promulgation of a dispupted constitution. Nnnn s CABINET MEETS THURSDAY Kathmandu, 8 Aug.: Responsibilities of secretaries in government will be discussed by a regular session of cabinet Thursday. Five secretaries resigned en masse charging government appointed Lilamani Paudel chief secretary superceding them. Paudel took charge this week. nnnn LT. GEN.GAURAV SHUMSHERE RANA APPOINTED ACTING ARMY CHIEF Kathmandu, 8 Aug.: Lt. Gen. was appointed Acting Army Chief by President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav Tuesday with the appointment coming into effect Friday. Lt..Gen Rana tkes charge as Army Chief 8 September when incumbent Army Chief Gen. Chatraman Singh Gurung retires. Gen. Gurung goes on leave Friday prior to retirement Friday. Lt.. Gen. Rana’s appointment was recommended by the defence ministry looked after by Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai. Nnnn TWO PAKISTANIS. ONE NEPALI PRESENTED BEFORE MEDIA Kathmandu, 8 Aug.: Two Pakistanis from Karachi and a Nepali were presented before media Tuesday with fake Indian currency notes totaling Rs.2.95 million. They were arrested earlier from a holes in the capital. The Pakistanis were identified as Sohail Mohamed Ismail, 40, and s Muhammad Naimullah, 47; they flew into the country by a Pakistan Airlines flight from Karachi Monday. The Nepali was identified as Rahamat Bashir Dhobi, 48, of Bara. Nnnn CITIZENS’ BANK IMPROVES PERFORMANCE Kathmandu, 8 Aug.: Citizens’ Bank recorded a net profit of Rs.22.2 million in the last fiscal year ending 15 July. The bank improved its performance compared to the previous year when net profit was only Rs.Rs.19.8 million. Nnnn GOLD GAINS Kathmandu, 8 Aug.: Gold gained Rs.200 per tola Tuesday when the yellow metal sold for Rs.56,800 per tola. Gold gained when the dollar weakened in the international market. nnnns.
