Kathmandu, 15 Aug.: Gyan Chandra Acharya was nominated to the UN job for consistently highlighting, advocating and projecting interests of least-developed countries if which Nepal is a group member. “He (Acharya) brings to the position 29 years of experience of diplomatic service involving the articulation and promotion of bilateral, regional and global issues. “In the last several years, in various capacities, he has been consistently highlighting, advocating for and projecting the interests and concerns of the least developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island developing states. “With a focus on sensitising the international community about the challenges and opportunities in these countries, Mr. Acharya has contributed to mainstreaming the issues of countries in special situations in the global development agenda,” a spokesman of NN Secretary Ban Ki-moon said in a statement.
