VICTIMS AND RIGHTSACTIVISTS OPPOSE TRC ORDINANCE Kathmandu, 29 Aug.: The Terror Victim Orphaned Society has objected to the decision of the government of submitting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Ordinance- 2069 BS and the Commission for Investigation on Forced Disappearances Ordinance-2069 BS to the President by the government, RSS reports. The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on August 27 had decided to submit the ordinances along with other two ordinances to the president. The Society objected to the saying the government unilaterally submitted the bills to the President by neglecting the earlier bills which have been already tabled at the parliament after holding long discussions with the stakeholders. Issuing a press statement today, Chairman of the Society, Suman Adhikary, said that the ordinances presented by the government unilaterally would increase more impunity, would not give justice to the victims and against the universal principles of human rights. The Society also urged the President not to accept the ordinances as the government has tried to form the commissions through the ordinances with the mentality of giving clemency to the guilty of serious types of human rights violations. Similarly the National Human Rights Foundation (HURFON) has said that ordinances related to forced disappearances and truth and reconciliation commission the government is planning to bring in soon are against the universal principles of human rights. The ordinances drafted without holding discussions with the stakeholders and political parties would not be implemented easily, said the Foundation urging the government not to issue it. In a press note today, the Foundation has said its serious attention has been drawn towards the ordinances and termed them against the Comprehensive Peace Accord, universal principles of human rights, rule of law and the principles propounded by the Supreme Court. The Foundation has demanded the government and the political parties to ensure justice to the victims as well. Nnnn TU BUDDHIST SOCIETY STUDIES DEPT. ALSO OPPOSES US MANFACTURE OF SHOES WITH BUDDHA IMAGE Kathmandu, 29 Aug.: The Buddhist Studies Department of the Tribhuvan University (TU) has expressed sadness on printing of Buddha's image on the shoes manufactured by an American shoe company, Icon Shoe Design. The Department said it was a disrespect of the Lord Buddha, a national luminary of Nepal, who spread the message of peace the world over. The act has hurt the faith and sentiments of the Buddhist followers all over the world by spoiling the religious tolerance, and urged the company to stop such acts immediately. Department Chief Dr. Milan Ratna Shakya said it was not right to replicate any propounders and preachers of religions and not only the Buddha hurting the feelings of the followers. Nnnn UPATE BIG THREE LEADERS COMMITTED TO CRISIS RESOLUTION Kathmandu, 29 Aug.: Top leaders of the major political parties have jointly expressed the commitment that they will find out solution of the current political stalemate on the basis of consensus. They also expressed the commitment that they will forge consensus to resume the process of talks by keeping disputes aside. At a programme organized by the Former Lawmakers Forum here today, the leaders said that they will find out solution of the political and constitutional crisis at the earliest. Senior leader of the CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal, said the Government's work is to create an environment of trust among political parties but the present government is silent on the issue. The former prime minister said that the government should pave way for political consensus and added that the government should finalize soon whether to reinstate the Constituent Assembly (CA) or its fresh election. Senior leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Lokendra Bahadur Chand, said political crisis has been surfaced as dialogue among political parties were weak and pointed out the need of joint initiative by political parties for the resolution. Similarly, General Secretary of the CPN (ML), CP Mainali, said political parties should not sign agreements like in the past, which were not implemented in practice. Likewise, Chairman of the Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal, Chitra Bahadur KC, expressed the view that federalism has added more political uncertainty in the country. nnnn
