NSU OBSTRUCTS CAPITAL’S TRAFFIC Kathmandu, 2 Sept.: The Nepal Students Union (NSU) staged a chakkajam in-front of all the campuses in the Kathmandu valley today to protest the attack on student leaders of NSU, Sudarshan Pokhrel and Shankar Gautam, RSS reports.. The NSU organised the transport halt for half an hour from 9:30 am in-front of all the campuses saying the cadres of the All Nepal National Independent Students Union (ANNISU)-Revolutionary injured the former NSU unit president and incumbent unit president of the Ayurved Campus, TU Kirtipur, Shankar Gautam and Sudarshan Pokhrel respectively on August 30 by thrashing them. Injured Pokhrel and Gautam are undergoing treatment at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj. Spokesperson of the NSU, UP Lamichhane, blamed that the government is trying to protect the guilty as police could not arrest them even after filing a petition. Nnnn FLIGHTS TO LUKLA RESUME Kathmandu, 2 Sept.: Flights to and from Lukla airport in Solukhumbu district have resumed since Sunday morning. The flights were disrupted due to bad weather for the past few days, RSS reports from Solukhumbu. According to the Airport Security Post Lukla, airlines companies have started making flights to and from the airport. Around 300 foreign tourists and other passengers who were left stranded here following the flight disruption could be dispatched to Kathmandu by today, said the airlines companies. Stranded passengers have expressed happiness on the resumption of flights. There was a shortage of mutton, green vegetables, eggs and bread in the tourist area of Lukla due to disruption of air services. However, weather of Phaplu airport in the district has not improved yet. Flights scheduled for today have been cancelled as weather here did not see any improvement, said Nepal Airlines Corporation Sales Manager Ganesh Shrestha. nnnn FLOOD DAMAGE IN MYAGDI Kathmandu, 2 Sept.:: Maldhunga-Beni road section connecting Beni with national highway has been obstructed after a flood in the Lungdi rivulet swept away a bridge, RSS reportsfrom Myagdi.. The flood that occurred on Saturday night swept away wooden motorable bridge along the border of Majhphant and Dhairing VDCs of Parbat. With the road obstruction, vehicles to and from Myagdi have not been plying. An arrangement has been made to operate vehicles via alternative route of Beni-Baglung, said the district traffic office sources. The flood also swept away land around the bridge and also put some houses at risk. nnnn
