PRESIDENT HANDS OVER MEDALS ON NATIONAL EDUCATION DAY Kathmandu, 8 Sept.: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has presented the Nepal Bidya Bhushan medal and Nepal Chhatraa Bidya Padak (medal) of various classes to 236 students on the occasion of the National Education Day and the International Literacy Day, today [Saturday], RSS reports. At a function organized this morning at the Rastrapati Bhawan, Sheetal Niwas, this morning, 129 students of higher education received the Nepal Vidya Bhushan 'A', 54 topping in masters level received the Vidya Bhushan 'B' to 15 securing highest marks in various faculties of bachelor level received Vidya Bhushan 'C'. Likewise, the Nepal Chhatraa Vidya Padak (medal) was given away to 28 girl students topping in bachelor level and ten girl students of certificate level in various faculties. Addressing the function, President Dr. Yadav pointed out the need for further efforts for reaching employment opportunities to the impoverished people by making higher, technical and commercial education timely. The president also stressed on the need for brining into mainstream the dalits, women, Madhesis and Janajatis. Access to life supporting education should be increased to resolve the problem of going abroad for jobs; he said, and sought commitment from all concerned for making colleges purely academic places. He also called on those attaining the degrees to use their skills in nation building. Minister for Education Dinanath Sharma said manpower also excelling in nation building is the need of the day. He also said the government was active in generating manpower and developing infrastructure by forwarding the concept of Open University. nnnn DR. BHESH SAYS POLITICAL LEADERSHIP SHOULD GO TO YOUTH Kathmandu, 8 Sept.: Former minister Dr Bhesh Bahadur Thapa has said political leadership could transfer to the youth once the stagnant politics was put to an end. Inaugurating the area 'C' Conference 2012 of the Nepal Jaycees at Sankhu yesterday, former minister Thapa urged all to be aware of government's politics of cheap popularity, saying it was maintaining double standard in terms of foreign issues. He added that leaders were making hue and cry over the views of various foreign ministers, leaders and diplomats but were not taking any action through proper diplomatic channel. Also the former Nepali ambassador to India, Mr Thapa suggested the government to deal the issue of nationality not with cheap politics but with deft diplomatic way. Surendra Bahadur Pradhan of the Sankhu Jaycees presented a working paper on youth leadership while youth leaders, Badri Pande and Yogesh Bhattarai, said participation of youths was rising in many sectors in addition to politics. "Youth leadership is the demand of time, none can obstruct it," leader Pande said. Similarly, leader Bhattarai pointed out the need that youths should be more active for getting leadership. Chairman of Sankhu Jaycees, Rajendra Shrestha informed media that the conference attended by 300 youths from across the country would last for two days. RSS nnnn
