BAIDYA PROPOSES THAPA AS NEW PM
Kathmandu, Oct 22: CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya ruled out any possibility of a new government under parties including Nepali Congress (NC) and, instead, put forth party General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa’s name for the post of next prime minister, Republica reports.
Talking to reporters at his residence in Balaju on Monday, Baidya said, “The new government should be led by a republican, federal and nationalist force. So we won’t accept government leadership under any party including Nepali Congress. We propose Badalji (Thapa) as the new PM.”
Baidya also said the current impasse will not end unless the ruling UCPN (Maoist) and major oppositions CPN-UML and NC stop focusing only on power.
He also stressed that the incumbent Baburam Bhattarai-led government should step down and that political dialogue should be held with regard to the formation and leadership of the new government.
Stating that his party is open to both the Constituent Assembly(CA) reinstatement and fresh CA elections, Baidya said there should be consensus on essence of new constitution for CA revival and on change of guard in government for new elections.
He further said there is no alternative to street protest for ouster of the current government if it does not step down willingly and added that his party would join any such protest initiated by NC and UML.
