NEPAL, SOUTH ASIA HAS NEW MARATHON CHAMPION Kathmandu, 13 Oct.:: Krishna Basnet of Nepal Army (NA) won the 6th Kathmandu Marathon ahead of SAG marathon gold medalist Rajendra Bhandari. Basnet completed the race in two hours 29 minutes and 40 seconds. NA dominated the long distance race taking three top positions Saturday.. Krishneswari Sintakala of Armed Police Force (APF) won the race in the women’s event. Sintakala, 26, finished the distance of 42.195 km in three hours 26 minutes and 50 seconds South Asian Games (SAG) marathon gold medalist Rajendra Bhandari finished the race fourth. Top three runners in the men´s and women´s events bagged Rs 100,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 Seventy-nine runners participated in the race--69 men and 10 women. nnnn. NC LEADER AGAINST NC RESURRECTIOB Kathmandu, 13 Oct Nepali Congress (NC) leader Kul Bahadur Gurung has claimed that reinstating the dissolved constituent assembly (CA) would not end the country´s ongoing political and constitutional crises. RSS reports. Speaking at an interaction on ´Nepali Nationality and B P Koirala´ in the capital on Saturday, the NC leader said there was no relevance to the CA revival as the same CA failed to draft a constitution during its four-year tenure. Commenting the foreign visit of UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, NC leader Gurung accused the Maoist party of trying to hinder the politics of consensus by leaving for foreign trips during the crucial time of striking deals. He also complained that the NC was forgetting the thoughts of late BP. Likewise, another NC leader Binaya Dhoj Chand said the NC was not willing to move ahead by internalizing the thoughts of BP. On the occasion, constitutionalist Bipin Adhikari and historian Ramesh Dhungel presented separate working papers on BP´s thoughts. They opined that the country would get an outlet if the NC implemented BP´s thoughts. Nnnn MINISTER YADAV LEAVES FOR DUBA Kathmanndu, 13 Oct.: Minister for Information and Communications, Raj Kishor Yadav, left for Dubai on Saturday to participate in the conference of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), RSS reports. “The conference would hold extensive discussion on development and extension of information technology and the policy related problems emerged while implementing the technology in the global level”, said minister Yadav talking to media person at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). The conference that will start on Sunday will end on October 18. Nnnn ACTING CEC LEAVES FOR INDIA Kathmandu, 13 Oct.: Acting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Nilakanth Uprety has left for India on Saturday to participate in a conference of the chief election commissioners of the SAARC countries, RSS reports.. The conference to begin on Sunday would hold thorough discussions on ways to make elections free and fair. “The conference would also discuss about reducing rigging, undue financial influence and misuse of authority and resources during elections, said Uprety while talking to media at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). A total of 30 persons including from the Asia Pacific regions would participate in the conference. Nnnn
