UPDATE ALL-PARTY MEET TUESDAY Kathmandu, 1 Oct.: The major three political parties and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) are scheduled to hold parleys with all political parties represented in the dissolved constituent assembly (CA) in a bid to find a way out to the current political standstill, RSS reports. UCPN (Maoist) spokesperson Agni Sapkota said that the major political forces would hold joint discussion in an attempt to find a common ground to end the current imbroglio after the President set a deadline of October 16 for forging consensus among the political parties. Sapkota said the meeting was called for forging a package deal regarding fresh elections to the CA, national unity government and others issues. CPN (UML) Chairman Jhalanath Khanal said that all the parties represented in the dissolved CA would meet in an effort to end the ongoing political transition. The meeting is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Tuesday. nnnn CIAA ASKS FORMER MINISTER TO RETURN GOVT. VEHICLE Kathmandu, 1 Oct.: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has directed former Minister for General Administration Surya Man Gurung to immediately return the vehicle that he received from the state in capacity as the Minister, RSS reports.. The CIAA directive comes after the former Minister was found using the government-owned vehicle even after being relieved off the post of minister. Meanwhile, the Commission has directed the police administration to hand over to the concerned ministry, department or office any vehicle found used illegally by any present or former office-bearers. Nnnn CHATARA CANAL CLOSURE WORRY FOR FARMERS Kathmandu, 1 Sept.: Farmers in Sunsari and Morang districts have been worried due to the closure of Chatara main canal under the Sunsari-Morang Irrigation Project, RSS reports from Biratnagar.. The Irrigation Project is the largest irrigation project in the eastern region.The Project has been closed for the past one week. The Project said clearing works at the source of the canal is going on and will take few more days for it as sand has been accumulated at the canal. A total of 68,000 hectares of land in the two districts have been irrigated through the Project. Water of Saptakoshi river has been released in the canal and two Dreiser machines have been installed at the source to prevent sands.Sands has been accumulated at 19 branch canals and 100 sub-branch canals. A problem of fertile land changing into barren land has increased due to the water of the canal along with sands. Office bearers of Sitagunj Branch Canal Users' Committee said budget of hundreds of thousands of rupees is being embezzled every year in the name of clearing the canal. nnnn
