UPDATE NEPAL ENTERS FINAL OF ACC ELITE CLUB BEATING MALAYSIA Kathmandu, 10 Oct. :Nepal entered the final of ACC Elite Cup Wednesday beating Malaysia by 21 runs in their semifinal Nepal meets United Arab Emirates in the final. Nepal restricted Malaysia to 220 runs in 45 overs ;Prithu Baskota took three and Shakti Gauchan three and two wickets each. Batting first, Nepal hit 245 runs in 45 overs for nine wickets. United Arab Emirates defeated Afghanistan by eight wickets with 158 balls remaining in another semifinal match. Nepal earlier beat UAE in its opening Group B fixture. nnnn NEPAL, INDIA MEET ON HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION GETS UNDERWAY Kathmandu, 10 Oct.:: The fifth meeting of Nepal-India ´Steering Committee´ related to the construction of East- West Terai (Postal) Highway kicked off here from today [Wednesday]. The joint-secretary-level meeting is expected to review the progress of highway construction, finding a solution to challenges for construction and hold discussions about how to take the project ahead. Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works Hariom Shribastav is leading a 16-member delegation to the meeting whereas Indian government´s Joint Secretary Akhilesh Mishra is taking part in the meeting with his 28-member delegation. The meeting is taking place at a meeting hall of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works. It may be noted that an agreement was signed between the governments of Nepal and India two years back to construct around 1500-kilometer long highway from east Mechi to west Mahakali with Indian grant assistance. After the meeting, both the teams will go for field inspection of the project in Biratnagar, said Joint Secretary Shribastav. Senior officers from ministries of finance, foreign affairs and physical planning and works and technicians from the Department of Roads are taking part in the meeting. Nnnn DETAILS OF UCPN MAOIST MEET Kathmandu, 10 Oct.: The UCPN-Maoist has given a final touch to the agendas of its general convention, RSS reports. A meeting of the office-bearers and organization department of the party held at the official residence of the prime minister at Baluwatar Wednesday, gave final touch to the agendas of the general convention and the next meeting which is to be held on Thursday will approve it, said Spokesperson of the UCPN-Maiost, Agni Sapkota. Sapkota added the agendas will be sent to districts after making them public.Adopting the concepts put by the district coordinators and state coordinators in a workshop organized few weeks ago, today´s meeting has prepared agendas of general convention and procedures of approval, Sapkota added. The meeting also decided to organize the general convention in the fix date which could not be held for the past 22 years. The meeting also decided to give pace to the talks and discussions held between political parties for crisis resolution saying the political crisis has been intensified. The meeting came to the conclusion that the solution could not come out because the NC and CPN-UML moved ahead by keeping the government in focus rather than political outlet, and decided to make strategies accordingly. The meeting also discussed that the government should not resign unless a package deal is reached among parties Nnnn
