15 OPPOSITION PARTIES MEET AMID CRISIS
Kathmandu, 25 Nov.: With five days deadline remaining for parties to assemble a consensus government, main opposition parties NC and UML have convened a meeting of 15 opposition parties Sunday to discuss the presidential move.
President Dr.. Ram Baran Yadav asked parties to assemble such a government by four in the afternoon Thursday—a move of the head of state criticized by government
but welcomed by the opposition.
Dr. Yadav moved after repeated presidential intervention and requests for a consensus government to conduct elections by April/May
The exercise didn’t bear fruit even in six months.
UML Saturday asked main opposition NC to name its candidate to succeed Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai government now in office for more than 13 months.

Maoists are still pushing for a national consensus government under Bhattarai.

The first Maoist government fell after confrontation with President Dr.Yadav on pressure of parties over the dismissal of Army Chief Gen. Rukmangud Katawal.
But Indian troubleshooter Shyam Sharan has revealed India intervened on behalf
of Gen. Katawal through the president and parties now in opposition.
