NEPALI WOMEN TO ATTEMPT MT.KILIMANJARO IN AFRICA Kathmandu, 1 Nov. :: The members of the First Inclusive Sagarmatha Women´s Expedition Team are to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro (5895 Meters), the rooftop of Africa between 1 to 7 March 2013. Mt. Kilimanjaro is the tallest peak of Africa and lies in Tanzania., RSS writes. Organizing a news conference in the capital on Thursday, coordinator of the expedition team Shailee Basnet said that the team has successfully scaled Mt. Everest, Mt. Kosciuszko (Australia) and Mt. Elbrus (Europe). Among the nearly 300 people in the world who have scaled the tallest mountains in all seven continents only 51 are women. The expedition team consists of coordinator Basnet and Nimadoma Sherpa, Pemadiki Sherpa, Ashakumari Singh, Chunu Shrestha, Pujan Acharya and Maya Gurung as members. Popular South African TV actress Hlubi Mboya is also participating in the expedition. The expedition team is climbing the peak with the vision to ´educate and empower´ and will highlight the need for girl child education. Coordinator Basnet said the main objective of the expedition was to intensify the participation of women in education and inspire women to do something for the nation. After the expedition, the Nepali and Tanzanian climbers will visit various schools in Arusha and Dares-Salaam to tell their stories and encourage young students, especially girls, while also advocating the importance of education to achieve their dreams. The total budget of the expedition is estimated to be around 50,000 US dollars and for this support would be sought from Childreach International, Nepal Tourism Board and other bodies, it was stated at the programme.
