PRACHANDA CONSULTS PRESIDENT, UPDATE WTH OTHER DETAILS Kathmandu, 16 Dec.: Maoist Chairman Prachanda held consultations with President DR Ram Baran Yadav Sunday morning one day before the expiry of a presidential deadline asking parties for the fourth time in 25 days to fund a consensus candidate to succeed Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and a government acceptable to major parties ‘The country s moving towards an understanding,” the Maoist chief said after a meeting with the president Prachanda , one day after Bhattarai’s meeting with the president, told the head of state unofficial talks were ongoing to find an outlet to a prolonged deadlock. Maoist Spokesman Agni Sapkota said a .breakthrough agreement will come Monday. Nnnn ROGUE ELEPHANT KILLS COUPLE IN CHITWAN Kathmandu, 16 Dec.: A wild elephant came out of Chitwan National Park and killed a couple at Madi overnight after entering a village. Hussband Buddhi Ram Bote was killed instantly and wide died while being rushed to hospital for treatment. Locals are protesting on the street with inability of government to stop the elephant menace. Nnnn ARMY CHIEF VISITING INDIA Kathmandu, 16 Dec.: Newly appointed Army Chief Gen Gaurab Shumshere SJB Rana is visiting India for the first time 6 January following his appointment, a published report said. Hs first foreign visit was to Australia. In India, Gen. Rana will be appointed honourary general of the Indian army reflecting the present cordial ties between the two South Asian neighbours. Nepal confers such a title to the Indian army chief as well. Nnnn DENGUE FOD IN BARDIYA Kathmandu, 16 Dec.: Dengue has killed one person in Bardiya; five persons have been detected with the disease. Dengue was previously limited to the central and eastern regions. nnnn
