SAPKPTA SAYS CONSENSUS WITHIN A WEEK NOT FIVE DAYS GIVEN BY PRESIDENT Kathmandu, 19 Dec.: : Spokespersons of the UCPN-Maoist, Agni Prasad Sapkota, has said that consensus would be forged within a week, RSS reports.. At a programme organised by the Reporters´ Club Nepal here today, Sapkota said it was an important matter of how to institutionalize republic achieved from the historic people´s movement rather than who will be the next Prime Minister. Sapkota added that the discussions taking place at the political level are focused on the issue of institutionalizing republic. Stating that his party was not afraid of going for fresh election of the Constituent Assembly (CA), he said the UCPN-Maoist accepts the decision of people to going for election. Similarly, Nepali Congress leader Arjun Narsingh KC has said that exit of the incumbent government for national consensus was the first condition of the opposition parties as the UCPN-Maoist ignored to implement the commitments in practice. KC mentioned that other opposition parties have supported to the demand of NC of taking leadership of a national consensus government before holding the fresh election and the election was an outlet to the existing political stalemate. He said protest programmes launched by the opposition parties were postponed at a time when initiatives were underway to forge a consensus and added the programmes would be continued if consensus was not forged. Raghuji Panta of the CPN-UML determined that the UCPN-Maoist could not go out from consensus. Panta said CPN-UML and Nepali Congress would no longer accept a proposal of the UCPN-Maoist as accepting all the approved issues as it is was tying hands of the future CA. Speaking at a face-to-face program in Ghorahi today, Raute chieftain Prakash Shahi expressed regrets over the Prime Minister who has visited the settlements of different ethnic communities neglecting the Rautes. Shahi invited the Prime Minister and the President to visit their place to experience ´first-hand´ their difficulties. He said they would offer their guests what they have been eating. Other Raute people who spoke in the face-to-face programme with the Rautes, the first of its kind, complained that they have not received the allowances that the State has been providing them on time. "If the Prime Minister comes to our place, he will understand our problems and difficulties," they said and expressed the hope that their allowances would be increased after the Prime Minister and government ministers visit their dwellings.
