ACTION DEMANDED AGAINST PM, ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR
OBSTRUCTION UPDATE
Kathmandu, 13 Jan.; A writ was registered Sunday at the supreme
court demanding action against Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and Attorney General Mukti Pradhan for attempting obstructing of investigation of the murder of journalist Dekendra Thapa eight years in Dailekh by misuse of their official positions.
Opposition students affiliated with main opposition NC dressed in while dhotis took out a procession acting like mourners to ridicule government efforts to scuttle investigation into the murder.
Journalists said they will boycott Attorney General Pradhan in his home district.
A team of journalists led by FJN Chief Shiba Gaule interacted with locals in Dailek to prepare a report and prevent government efforts to stop onvestigations even after confession by five arrested Maoists.

Government through the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) Friday
ordered Nepal Police and the Dailekh Attorney’s Office to stop recording
statements and halt the investigations of Maoists charged for murder.
Journalists have even demanded arrests of the prime minister and the attorney general for their intervention amid threats by Gaule he will go to the international cout of justice.
DAILEKH, Jan 13: Agitating journalists and locals continued their demonstrations on Sunday as well in protest against Prime Minister Baburam Bhattrai and Attorney General (AG) Mukti Pradhan for allegedly instructing prosecutors in the district to halt the proceedings of Dekendra Thapa murder case.
Meanwhile, Devendra Paudel, political aide of the premier, threatened Sunday criminal charges will be revived against NC and UML leaders who suppressed the people’s war during the insurgency.

COUNT OF ACQUATIC BIRDS BEGINS
Kathmandu, 13 Jan.; A fortnight’s count of aquatic birds
began Friday.
Bird Education Society, Himalayan Nature, Nepal Ornithologists´ ssociation and Chitwan National Park (CNP) are involved in the update.
The count started in 1987.

115-YEAR-OLD OLDEST WOMAN DIES
Kathamandu, 13 Jan.: A Japanese official says a woman in his town near Tokyo who became world's oldest living female just last month has
died at 115, AP reports from Tokyo..
Koto Okubo died Saturday at a nursing home in Kawasaki City, according to city official Mitsuhiro Kozuka. He said her relatives declined to release the cause
of her death and family details.
Born Dec. 24, 1897, Okubo held her title for less than a month following the death of Dina Manfredini of the United States.
Manfredini died within two weeks after becoming the world's oldest person. Jiroemon Kimura, a 115-year-old man in Japan's ancient capital of Kyoto, inherited that title. He was born on April 19, 1897.
The city official said Okubo had lived with one of her sons at the same
nursing home.
