NC leader Banstola BASTOLA UNDERGOES OPERATION AGAIN Kathmandu, 1 Jan.” Nepali Congress(NC) leader Chakra Banstola is undergoing a surgical operation of his brain for the second time at the Medant Hospital in New Delhi, India, RSS reports from Bhadrapur.. The operation for the second time on Banstola is related to cerebral edema, said Banstola´s nephew Tara Banstola, quoting the doctors. Earlier on December 29, Banstola was operated on at the Neuro Hospital, Silguri, India, after suffering from brain haemorrhage. Banstola was taken to Delhi at 9:00 pm on Tuesday from Siliguri after no signs of improvements were seen in his health condition. He is in an unconscious state for the last three days even after the operation. nnnn ________________________________________ ABUSES AGAINST WOMEN BEIGN MONIOTORED Kathmandu, 1 Jan.: The Monitoring Committee on Violence Against Women has started monitoring the incidents of violence against women throughout the country, RSS reports.. As per the information provided at a press conference held at the Prime Minister´s Office in Singha Durbar today, the monitoring committee constituted under the chairmanship of Secretary at the PMO Rajuman Singh Malla has started strict monitoring for preventing such incidents. It is stated that the committee will monitor VAW incidents including the rape of a woman after her abduction from the Tribhuvan International Airport Immigration Office, the murder of Shiva Hasami by setting her on fire, the death under dubious circumstances of Sraswati Subedi and Bindu Kumari Thakur and the disappearance of one Chhori Maiya Maharjan from the capital. It will also recommend action in these cases. Secretary Malla said that the committee will also investigate into other incidents that have taken place of late across the country and submit a report to the government on this. According to him, the process for action has been moved forward as per the directives issued by a meeting of the Gender Empowerment Central Coordination Committee that was chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai on December 30, 2012 that stern action be taken against the individuals and groups implicated in cases of violence against women (VAW) and that they should not be let free. Nnnn ________________________________________ SC UPHOLDS STAY ORDERON POLICE PORMOTIONS Kathmandu, 1 Jan,: The Supreme Court (SC) jointy bench Tuesday stayed the government decision to promote five Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to rank of Deputy Inspector of Generals (DIGs). The court askes the government not to implement its cabinet decision after complaint lodged by other office claming they were superseded. SSPs Rabi Pratap Rana, Purna Singh Khadka, Manohar Prasad Rimal, Ram Kumar Khanal, Gyanodraj Baidya and Tara Prasad Lamichhane filed the cases. SSPs Shyam Bahadur Khadka, Nawaraj Silwal, Prakash Aryal, Jaya Bahadur Chand and Bam Bahadur Bhandari to were promoted to DIG. nnnn
