NEPAL IN SEMI-FINALS OF ACC WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP Kathmandu, 27 Jan.: Nepal Qualified Sunday for a semi-final berth of the ACC bealing Malaysia by seven wickets in ACC Women’s Championship in Thailand,. Nepal recorded three successive wins. Nepali women scored 66 runs in 11.3 overs to register a win.. Malaysia won the toss and batted first. Nepal tops the chart A with six points. Nepal plays Hong Kong Monday in Group A to determine the group leader. nnnn COLD WAVE PERSISTS IN EASTERN REGION Kathmandu, 27 Jan.: Daily life in the eastern Tarai has again been hit hard after another wave of cold spell lashed the region since the past week, RSS reports from Bhadrapur.. Dense fog since the early morning and cold wave throughout the day has forced people in Jhapa to stay indoors. This is the second round of the cold wave spell after the first round of severe cold that had ended following an improvement in the weather in the second week of this month. A significant number of people have been visiting local health centres with complaints of cough and common cold since the past few days. Children and the old-aged are the most affected, according to records at the District Public Health Office. The number of service recipients flocking to the district headquarters Bhadrapur has also gone down while the markets look deserted until noon. The re-arrival of the cold wave will continue its impact on the potato farming in around 12,000 hectares of land in the district, says the District Agriculture Development Office. Nnnn INDIAN ARRESTED WITH ILLEGAL INDIN CURRENCY NOTES Kathmandu, 27 Jan.: Nepal Police have arrested an Indian businessman with a huge amount of Indian currency (IC) notes of 500 and 1000 rupee denomination on Saturday. It may be noted that the use and carrying of IC note of 500 and 1000 denomination are banned in Nepal, RSS reports from Bhadrapur. A fish trader Anil Mahato (28) of Silgudi Champasri, West Bengal of India was found carrying such notes worth three lakhs, said Govinda Thapaliya, Deputy Superintendent Police of Jhapa. Mahato was arrested while returning to India after exchanging the notes from a Money Changer in Birtamod. He will be forwarded to the Department of Revenue Investigation in Kathmandu for further investigation, DSP Thapaliya said. Nnnn CHILD ABDUCTED IN BIRGUNJ Kathmandu, 27 Jan.:: A child has been abducted from Aadarsh Nagar Birgunj on Saturday. Sulok Agrawal, eight-year-old son of local Ashok Agrawal was abducted at around 7:00 pm yesterday, RSS reports from Birgunj. The boy, who used to study at a school in neighbouring India, had come home to attend a marriage ceremony, according to the family. Despite the claims of abduction by the family, police here say that they have received a complaint of a missing child. We have launched a search for the child who has been reported missing, said Pitambar Adhikari, Superintendent Police (SP) of Parsa district. The new case of child abduction following the recent kidnapping of another youth Raju Prajapati has created a panic in and around Adarshanagar. The situation of Prajapati, who was kidnapped some three months ago, is not yet known. nnnn
