PM ‘s CONTROVERSIAL REMARK DENIED Kathamandu, 9 Jan. : The personal secretariat of Prime Minister has expressed serious concern over the news coverage by different media of late, especially in relation to the remarks of the PM, RSS reports. Issuing a press release here on Wednesday, the Prime Minister´s personal secretary Biswodeep Pandey said that the Wednesday media coverage stating that Prime Minister has intervened in the prosecution of journalist murder convicts in Dailekh was baseless. The Prime Minister´s expression on Dailekh-based journalist Dekendra Thapa, which he made at a programme organized to commemorate Rajendra Dhakal enforced disappeared by the state, was twisted by the media, reads the release. ´Such news would merely escalate conflict´, Pandey said in the statement, making it clear, ´The Prime Minister was of the view to first form a Truth and Reconciliation Commission and proceed action against those implicated by the Commission´. The government was effortful to expedite the process of constituting the Commission, which has long been stalled, and the state would in no circumstances nurture violence, stated the press release. The statement further explains, ´It may be counterproductive to bring into light some certain incidents as it is the spirit of the country´s Interim Constitution and Comprehensive Peace Accord that the nation should move ahead by ailing wounds of the conflict period. The Prime Minister is firm to his commitment to put an end to impunity and bring the perpetrators to justice´. However, the Prime Minister´s recent remarks have drawn flak from the human rights activists. Issuing a joint press release on Wednesday, various organizations crusading for human rights have said that the Prime Minister´s remarks, when the convicts have already conceded their involvement in the murder, have disrupted the investigation process. The press release was issued by some 23 human rights activists including Sushil Pyakurel, Charan Prasain, Dinesh Tripathi, Dr Gopal Krishna Shivakoti and Mandira Sharma. The human rights leaders also urged the government to honestly uphold democracy, rule of law, international values of human rights nnnn
