Nnnn KANGALDANDA IN SOLOKHUMBU LINKED BY ROAD Kathmandu, 6 Jan.:: Vehicle has reached the local Kangaldanda airport, RSSvreports from Solokhumbu. Nepali Congress central member and former minister Bal Bahadur KC inaugurated the road to airport from district headquarters via Garma on Saturday. On the occasion, leader KC said it will ease smooth operation of Kangaldanda airport. The road linking headquarters and Kangal was constructed to operate Kangal airport as an alternative Faplu airport seeing blacktopping works. Likewise, the three-kilometre road from Nele to airport along the Garma-Nele road section has been dug out at the cost of Rs 2.8 million. Speaking at the inauguration programme, Solukhumbu Chief District Officer Sitaram Karki said though the country's national economy has reaped benefits from the income of Solukhumbu, but the district itself has received little from this. He underlined the need to put coordinated efforts to tap tourism potential of the district. Local Development Officer Chiranjibi Timsina said the focus should be given to local production after transport facility has become accessible. Nnnn PAKISTAN ACCUSES INDIA OF DEADLY CROS-BORDER RAID Kathmandu, 6 Jan.:: The Pakistani military is accusing forces from neighboring India of crossing the boundary between the two sides' forces in Kashmir and attacking a Pakistani border post, killing a soldier, AP reports from Islamabad.. The military's public relations office said in a statement Sunday that another Pakistani soldier was critically wounded in the incident early Sunday. They said troops are still exchanging gunfire in the area. They said the raid crossed the "line of control" dividing the Indian and Pakistani sides of Kashmir, a flashpoint of violence between these two neighbors for decades. Both claim the region as their own. A 2003 cease-fire ended the most recent round of fighting. Each side occasionally accuses the other of violating it by lobbing mortars or shooting across the LOC, but accusations of cross-border raids are rare. nnnn
