CAMPAIGN AGAINST ELEPHANTIASIS KICKS OFF Kathmanu, 1 Feb. : The Ministry of Health and Population has urged everyone to take medicines against Elephantiasis, RSS reports. The medicines- albendazole and diethyl caramazin are being administered against the disease in 56 districts simultaneously including three districts in the Kathmandu valley from February 2-5 under the Ministry´s high priority programs. The program is run to eradicate the disease by 2018. People are affected from this disease in 61 districts of the country. The medicines should be taken for six years once a year, the Ministry said. Minister for Health and Population, Rajendra Mahato initiated the program today, where Secretary Dr. Prabin Mishra called for taking the medicines without fear. It should not be taken by children under two, pregnant women, seven day´s post delivery woman and seriously ill people. The disease is caused by mosquito bite. Nnnn UPDATE MAOIST CONVENTION Kathmandu, 1 Feb.: The inaugural function of the Seventh General Convention of the Unified CPN (Maoist) is scheduled to be organized at Huprachour of Hetauda in Makawanpur district, on Saturday, RSS reports from Hetuda.. Chairman of the UCPN-Maoist, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, will inaugurate the Seventh General Convention of the party, according to the UCPN-Maoist District Committee, Makawanpur. Chairman Dahal, Vice Chairman and Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, and another Vice Chairman of the party and Deputy Prime Minister Narayankaji Shrestha, including other central office bearers are scheduled to arrive in Hetauda by tomorrow afternoon. However, the General Convention representatives of the UCPN-Maoist have begun to arrive in Hetauda as all the preparations for the General Convention have been concluded. Meanwhile, the security condition at and around the general convention venue have been strengthened, Chief District Officer, Durga Prasad Bhandari told RSS. The UCPN-Maoist has decided to organize the General Convention´s closed session and lodging arrangement at Hetauda Industrial District premises. Nnnn THREE SUSPECTED ABDUCTORS ARRESTED Kathmandu, 1 Feb.: Police have arrested three persons on suspicion of their involvement in abduction of an eight-year old boy in Parsa district, RSS reports from Parsa. Police team deputed under the initiative of the Zonal Police Office arrested locals, Prem Patel, Bhaiyaram Patel and Ajaya Patel from Sirsiya of Parsa on Thursday. They were taken under control for investigation on tip-off provided of their involvement in the abduction of eight-year-old Slok Agrawal, son of Ashok Agrawal, a resident of Adharshanagar in Birgunj. Two people who were on aboard a motorcycle had abducted Slok while he was playing in front of the house on January 26. Zonal Police Office Narayani and District Police Office have been jointly searching the child in various places but his condition is still unknown. RSS nnnn
