FORMER KING EXTENDS DEMOCRACY DAY GRETINGS Kathmandu, 18 Feb.: Former King Gyanendra Monday extended Democrady Day greetings. Tex of message:: Dear Nepali sisters and brothers, I would like to extend my greetings to all Nepali people on the occasion of the Democracy Day. 62 years ago Nepal saw the golden morning of the dawn of democracy. I extend my respect and tribute to the martyrs, who had sacrificed their lives, and my great grand-father His Majesty Tribhuvan, who had discarded the crown for democracy. It is a historical fact that Nepal has witnessed a consistent exercise and efforts for democracy. Nationality, democracy, people’s aspiration and motion are the necessities of contemporary time. The fundamental issues that are necessary for this are patriotism, people’s power, convivial environment and good-will based national unity. It is my belief that only through this nationality and democracy can sustain, strengthen and refined. In democracy the precepts of rule of law and human rights along with end of impunity must be upheld and the feeling of personal security must be there for everyone. I believe that this is the importance of the democratic system and the worth of democracy day remains in it. To make a democratic Nepal, established by our ancestors and consolidated by us -- sovereign, strong, prosperous, peaceful and well-coordinated -- we must replicate our norms and values, tradition and historical morality. Today we must give ourselves to this self-realization. May Sri Pashupatinath bless all of us. Jaya Nepal.
