The Ministry said the ambitious scheme was possible to be materialized within 10 years of its implementation through forest-based enterprises. The ministry endorsed the vision on January 24. The dream project was conceptualized after Dr. Krishna Chandra Paudel joined the forestry as new secretary. He, for the first time, launched the vision 2030 at gathering event in WWF-US programme, at Washington D.C on February 1. Presenting his hour long video presentation at a seminar in the capital Monday, Dr. Paudel said the theme of forestry for prosperity was tantamount to people’s prosperity by executing the forestry-related businesses. Saying that of the total land area of Nepal, 40 per cent was still covered by forest areas, Nepal’s economic growth was possible through sustainable forest management. “In the next few years, forestry sector will be a fundamental pillar as the largest contributing factor for Nepal’s economic growth and become a key development approach up to the grassroots levels,” said Dr. Paudel. Dr. Paudel said that his ministry was working for the development and implementation of forestry sector strategy, policies and plans through multi-stakeholders processes.
