NEW CHINESE AMBASSADOR APPOINTED Kathmandu, 17 Feb.: The government of China has proposed Deputy Director General of the Department of External Security Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of the People´s Republic of China, Wu Chuntai to the post of new ambassador of Nepal, RSS reports.. Beijing proposed the new ambassador by recalling ambassador Yang Houlan before expiry of his three-year term. The name will be presented at the office of the President this week for approval said, Dr. Niranjanman Singh Basnyat of the Department of Protocol. A graduate, who joined Chinese Foreign Service 27 years ago, Ambassador Wu has already served in Turkey, UK and Northern Ireland in London. He has already served as the first secretary of the diplomatic mission in Hong Kong besides in north Asian and American departments of the Chinese Foreign Ministry. Ambassador Yang who prepares to return within February 28 after 20 months in office, has already paid farewell call on party leaders, diplomatic community and international development partners. Nnnn DETAILS OF PRESIDENT, INDIAN AMBASSADOR MEET ndian envoy calls on Prez Yadav Kathmandu, 17 Feb.: Ambassador of India to Nepal, Jayant Prasad, called on President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav at the Rastrapati Bhawan, Sheetal Niwas, on Sunday, RSS reports. On the occasion, they discussed on mutual relations and matters of bilateral interests between the two countries as well as current political crisis and initiatives taken by political parties to find out its outlet. nnnn SNOWFALL HITS NORMAL LIFE IN KARNALI Kathmandu, 17: Feb. Normal life in all the five districts of Karnali zone has been hard hit due to heavy snowfall.There was heaviest snowfall in Humla district as compared to other districts, RSS reports from Jumla.. Upper parts of Jumla and Mugu districts also recorded 3.5 feet thick of snowfall.The snowfall has created problems to people of different sectors including workers and entrepreneurs to carry out their works. Similarly, the snowfall has obstructed long-route and short-route transport services as well.Snowfall has been taking place continuously from 6:00 am this morning. BIMAL KOIRALA AWARDED BASU SASHI MEMORIAL AWARD Basu Shashi memorial award to Koirala Kathmandu, 17 Feb.: The Basu Shashi Memorial Council has decided to award poet and lyricist Dr. Bimal Koirala with this year´s ´Basu Shashi Memorial Award-2069, RSS reports.. The award carries a purse of Rs. 15,000.The Council is going to award Koirala for his continuous contribution to Nepali language and literature and lyrics for the past four decades. Koirala has been already honoured with various awards. Koirala is former chief secretary. Similarly, the Council is to award senior litterateur Geetakeshari with this year´s ´ Basu Shashi Memorial Honour-2069´. Geetakeshari has been honoured with various awards. A meeting of the working committee of the Council held under the chairmanship of chairman Krishna Joshi decided to award Koirala and Geetakeshari, said secretary of the council, Pradyumna Joshi. The awards will be given away on the 77th birth anniversary of senior poet and dramatist Basu Shashi on March 26. nnnn
