PRACHANDA INVITED TO VISIT INDIA Kathmandu, 9 March: Visiting leaders of Indian political parties Saturday On the current political situation with Maoist Chairman Pracanda and NC President Sushil Koirala. Maoist chief said he briefed Indian party leaders of efforts to find an outlet to the current deadlock. Prachanda was invited to visit India. NC leaders said Koirala expressed dissatisfaction will Indian ‘backing; for Maoists. Leaders told reporters Saturday they supported fresh elections for dissolved constituent assembly elections. Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party leader Bijay Joli said political parties should decide the election government. He said India was concerned with Nepal developments but assured New Delhi wouldn’t intervene. General Secretary of Janata Dal United KC Tyagi called for assembly elections. Nnnn NC, UML DON’T WANT ELECTIONS SAYS MAOIST SPOKESMAN Kathmandu, 9 March: : Spokesman of the UCPN-Maoist Agni Prasad Sapkota has said that consensus could not be forged as Nepali Congress and CPN-UML were not in favor of elections, RSS reports.. At a regular meeting with the press organized today at Parisdanda, the party headquarters, Sapkota said consensus could not be given final shape, as parties could not reach agreement in political issues rather than technical ones. He accused the NC and UML leaders of engaging in entangling the issue rather than resolving problems, but that his party was working with the intention of holding fresh elections by mid-June. Nnnn UML GENERAL SECRETARY POKHAREL CALLS FOR PRESIDENTIAL ‘GUARDIANSHIP’ FOR ELECTIONS BIRATNAGAR: General Secretary of the CPN-UML, Ishwor Pokharel, has said the Unified CPN-Maoist is moving ahead with the intention of capturing state power. Talking to journalists at Biratnagar Airport, Pokharel said the political parties that are the medium of change and democracy should not be entrapped in UCPN-Maoist conspiracy. He said even the election would not resolve the problem if the structure of democracy was ruined, adding that the UCPN-Maoist was dragging the judiciary and Nepal Army into controversy for they have been preventing the party from capturing the state power. General Secretary Pokharel said it would be better to go for elections under the President's guardianship than to make Executive Chief from the judiciary. nnnn
