REGMI ASSURANCES TO STUDENT LEADERS
Kathmandu, 22 March: Chairman of the interim election council kHil Rak Regmi Friday assured student leaders of 11 unions to meet their demands.
Students are demanding early union elections and rollback on hike in prices
on public transport slapped by the previous government.
Regmi told student leaders’ he’ll ask ministers to consider
demands.
Students asked Regmi not to appoint ‘tainted’ in government.

SUPREME COURT BENCH INTERVENES TO
STOP LOKMAN SINGH KARKI APPOINTMENT CIAA CHIEF
Kathmandu, 22 March: A single bench of the supreme court Friday
issued an issued interim order Friday to halt moves to
appointing former Chief Secretary Lokman Singh Karki
CIAA chief until 7 April.
Court Deputy Spokesman Hemanta Rawal
said the judge acted on a writ petition filed by advocate
Om Prakash Aryal..
The court summoned the petitioner and defendants
for discussion 7 April.
Aryal said a recommendation of the high level
political committee to appoint Karki as CIAA chief
is against constitutional provisions and the spirit of the
people´s movement, rule of law, good governance, transparency, accountability and the principle of constitutional checks and balances.
The writ claims Karki is ineligible for the post because
of alleged involved in suppressing the people’s
movement of April 2003 during the royal regime.
The Offuce of the Presiden, Chairman of Interim
Election Council Khil Raj Regmi and his office,
Constitutional Council, CIAA, UCPN (Maoist)
Chairman Dahal and Karki are defendants.

JIMMY CARTER ARRIVING
Kathmandu, 22 March: Former US President Jimmy
Carter, who is also head of Carter Center, arrives
29 March.
He will also visit Myanmar, a statement said Friday.
The Center has an office in Nepal.
A delegation Carter is leading will hold discussions with
hovernment, political party and civil dsociety
representatives before leaving for Myanmar 6 April
