UCPN MAOIST CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEET POSTPONED INDEFINITELY Kathmanu, 9 March:A scheduled meeting of the ruling UCPN Maoist has been indefinitely postponed. Top leaders, including Chairman Prachanda and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, a party vice-chairman, are busy with meetings to find an outlet to a deadlock to assemble an election government headed by Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi. The cntral committee has to nominate more than 50 central committee members which elected others at the just concluded seventh general convention in Hetauda. nnnn PM SAYS CONSENSUS AROUND THE CORNER Kathmandu, 8 March: Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has expressed the belief that consensus would be forged among the political parties by this evening, saying efforts made by the parties for finding a political outlet were heading towards positive direction, RSS reports.. Prime Minister Bhattarai said that the process for the formation of a new government will start soon after the political agreement was signed. He made this remark today while talking briefly to media persons at his official residence at Baluwatar. Responding to a query, the Prime Minister said that the process of hearing on the writ against the CJ-led government would go on and it would not hamper the process of formation of a new government. "We have the same understanding on it," Prime Minister Bhattarai added. He said initiatives are underway to give an outlet to the political crisis for holding fresh election to the Constituent Assembly (CA) by mid-June and added that political parties have reached to the conclusion that it was the best alternative to hold election by forming an election government under the leadership of the Chief Justice. Prime Minister Bhattarai said that initiatives among political parties to forge consensus has moved ahead in a positive way and also expressed the belief that perhaps consensus would be forged on a package deal till this evening. He said in the beginning, a political consensus would be forged which would include different issues including formation of an election government under the leadership of the incumbent Chief Justice to hold CA election by mid-June. Then another agreement would be reached for issuing order to remove obstacles. The Prime Minister said that some political issues including citizenship, constituting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, determining the ranks of former PLA combatants remained to be finalized and added that the parties were close to consensus on it. He said general agreement has been reached on the issues in principle. Prime Minister Bhattarai said issues would be finalized today after forging a concrete consensus on it and initiatives will be taken to go ahead with it after getting it endorsed by the Cabinet.
