UML STANDING COMMITTEE MEET STARTS Kathmandu, 27 March: A meeting of UML standing committee started Wednesday. .The meeting was abruptly cancelled without taking up agenda issues last week as Madhav Kumar Nepal opposed the proposed appointment of former chief secretary of the royal regime Lokman Singh Karki to CIAA chief. Some leaders in NC and UML have described Singh as ‘tainted’ even as top leaders=-- NC President =Sushil Koirala and UML’s Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and Vice-chairman Bamdev Gautam okayed proposals for Karki’s appointment by Maoists and Madeshbadi parties at a high-level mechanism of four parties. The body is directing government of Khil Raj Regmi. UML standing committee is discussing second constituent assembly elections—the main agenda item amid deep differences in the party where vacancies after a split to be filled and responsibilities given to office bearers. nnnn. NSU HUNGER STRIKE CONTINUES. Kathmandu, 27 March: A relay strike by a group of Nepal Students’ Union-a student wing of NC, continued for the fourth consecutive day Wednesday. The strike continues in front of the office of TU vice-chancellor presoing union elections at campuses under the oldest university. Nnnn UPDATE NEPAL SCORES 115 RUNS AGAINST HONG KONGIN ACC CRICKET Kathmandu, 27 March: Nepal scored 115 runs against Hong Kong in the ACC Twenty20 Cup Wednesday. Top scorer Gynendra Malla hit 38 runs off 39 balls. nnnn
