Nnnn SMALL PARTIES PROTEST ELECTION COMMISSION MOVE NO TO SET ASIDE SEATS FOR PARTIES ON PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION WITHOUT GETTING ONE PERCENT VOTE Kthmandu, 3 April: Small parties in the dissolved parliament Wednesday met Chairman of the Interim election Council Khil Raj Regmi and protested an election commission recommendation to government on proportional representation in the next assembly. The commission recommended change in electoral law not to provide seats on proportional basis to parties getting less than one percent vote in coming elections. Small parties protested arguing the new provision will marginalize groups and parties that ensured provide broad representation of society in the first assembly. The election commission says the move was to unite and not to limit the number of parties. More that 50 parties are registered with the election commission. nnnn
