DETAILS OF MAOIST CHIEF HOMCOMINH Kathmandu, 21 April: Chairman of the Unified CPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal returned home on Saturday night completing his weeklong visit to China, RSS reports.. Talking to journalists at the Tribhuvan International Airport after his arrival, he said his visit to China has been special, historic, very successful and fruitful. He said that the government of China was ready to extend cooperation for Nepal's economic development. "The Chinese government has expressed the commitment to provide whatever cooperation is required for the economic development and progress of Nepal," he said. Stating that the Chinese government has given suggestions to end the political transition in the country at the earliest and to take the country towards the path of progress, he said he is confident that 'some important' cooperation would be forthcoming from the Chinese side. He said in course of the visit he stressed on significant partnership between China and India also for the development in Nepal. Dahal said he drew the attention of the Chinese leaders that a poor Nepal would be neither benefit India nor China. He said that his visit to China was in his capacity as the coordinator of the High Level Political Committee and as the Chairman of the UCPN-Maoist. Dahal said his discussions with the Chinese leadership were mainly focused on economic development and that China was willing to provide assistance to Nepal for that purpose. Stating that during his visit he requested China for joint investment with India in the Karnali Chisapani Hydropower Project, the Greater Lumbini Project and other mega projects, he said he got positive response from China government in that regard. He also said that during his interaction with the business community in China, he urged the Chinese businessmen to invest for the development of the hydropower, tourism, road infrastructure and airport in Nepal, and that he has been informed that a business delegation was coming to Nepal in few days. In course of his weeklong visit to China, the UCPN-Maoist chairman on April 18 met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. During the meeting the two leaders held discussions on Nepal-China cooperation, and expansion of bilateral relations and ties between the two parties. The Chinese President had asked Dahal about the latest political situation and the constituent assembly election, and also expressed the readiness of China to provide the required assistance for conducting the CA election in Nepal. Similarly, leader Dahal met with the Chinese Vice President on April 17. On the occasion, they stressed the need for moving ahead the relations between the two countries on a new foundation. The Chinese Vice President said that Nepal is China's good neighbour and supporter and pledged that China would always extend support Nepal for its stability and development. Maoist Chairman Prachanda is the first top south Asian politician to visit China after the recent leadership change in China, world's second largest economy and the most populous country. The same day the UCPN-Maoist chairman met with the Foreign Minister of China and discussed matters relating to strengthening ties between the communist parties of the two countries as well as Nepal-China relations. He also held discussions with industrialists and entrepreneurs in Shenzhen, northern China on Friday. According to Dahal's personal secretary Chudamani Khadka, the former prime minister urged the Chinese business leaders to assist in Nepal's economic sector. Dahal urged the Chinese investors to invest in Nepal's hydropower, agriculture, road construction and industries. He also assured the Chinese investors of investment-friendly environment from the side of government and political parties in Nepal. In course of the visit, he had met with top leaders of the Communist Party of China, academicians and investors and media persons. Chairman Dahal had left for China on April 14.
